Asgaya Gigagei
Introduction
Asgaya Gigagei is a bigendered deity believed to have been a thunder god. In North American Indian mythology,
Cherokee gods were worshipped and formed the core belief system of the Native American tribe of the Cherokee who lived in an area of the Southeastern United States which is today the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. The entry of Europeans into the United States all but decimated the culture and beliefs of the Native Americans.
Cherokee Gods according to mythology helped the Native Americans live their lives and also helped them propagate and survive. They influenced agriculture, hunting, war, conflict, marriage and also the societal structure of the communities. The practice of Shamanism was also very common where an appointed person who could communicate with the God and pass on messages was as revered as the leader of the tribe.
